Here comes another exciting question type which is the note completion. We all are familiar with notes-making, right? Where a teacher speaks and we all make bullet points of it to remember the lecture. 🧑‍🏫🗒️ They include some keywords, phrases or list of something.
This is mainly like that. In this, you are given a set of notes (e.g. from any lecture or workshop or any tour). The notes will also have some missing parts which you have to complete by inserting the right information listened by you in the audio. 🎧✅
The tone of this question type can be both formal (like some lecture) and informal (like a tour guide).

💡 HOW TO DO IT??

The following steps can help you ace the note completion question: 🏆

🔍 READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY

This is essential recommendation I would give to you. You are prompted to read the instructions below the question “carefully”. 🧐
For instance, if the direction is to write 1 word only, and you write 2 words instead, your answer can be considered as wrong and there is a high chance that you lose a score ❌ even if the answer is right. ✅

🧠 FOCUS ON THE TITLE

Titles are mostly there above the questions. They try to give away you a vivid idea of what the speaker might be saying about. 🗣️
So you can understand the context in a better way.
If this question has a title at the top, “do not miss it”. ❗
For instance, in the example below, the title has been given which you can pay attention to. 👀

🔄 WATCH FOR SYNONYMS OR PARAPHRASING

Some of the words in the audio and in the questions might vary. The words would be different; however, they would give the same idea. 🔁
For instance, if the text in the audio conveys a message, its notes form might use different words to convey the similar message.
Therefore, you should be careful of the paraphrasing. 🧩
To exemplify, the audio might say, “That building was destroyed 300 years ago”, and the notes question might say, “ago, that building was demolished.” 🏚️
So you should be familiar with the similar words.

🔄 ANSWER IN ORDER

The notes completion question type works in a proper direction, just like the form completion. 🔽➡️
Just as the audio would be order, so would be the questions. Thus, your answers should also be in order. ✅
This way, the flow keeps going on and you don’t miss out on any relevant detail. 🧵

🚨 LOOK OUT FOR THE DISTRACTING CONTENT

It is essential for you to listen very consistently as well as closely, so that you can notice the distracting content in the audio.
For instance, if the speaker in the audio says, “That building was established in August 1945. Oh! My apologies, it was actually built in November 1945.”
The IELTS Listening section uses such diversions to test your keenness in listening English language. 🎯👂
